New Capital Investment Entrant Scheme

The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region announced on 1 March 2024 that the New Capital Investment Entrant Scheme (the “New CIES”)1 is open for application. It is expected that the New CIES will attract different investors (i.e. applicants under the New CIES) to come to the city for development and exploration of diverse investment opportunities.

Ever since the launch of the original Capital Investment Entrant Scheme (the "Original CIES")2 at an early stage in 2003, the Company had actively participated in it and applied to obtain the status as eligible collective investment scheme for a number of funds managed by it with an aim to provide a variety of fund choices to clients.

Currently, both retail funds and exchange traded funds (“ETFs”) managed by BOCI-Prudential Asset Management are “Eligible Collective Investment Schemes”3 under the New CIES. The types of fund products offered are diversified, covering a wide range of markets with different product features. By offering different types of fund choices, the Company aims to assist clients in realizing their various investment objectives and financial needs.

3 Investors should consult BOCI-Prudential Asset Management if they have any enquiries on a particular fund. Under the New CIES, “Eligible Collective Investment Schemes” are one of the six types of “Permissible Financial Assets” under the “Permissible Investment Assets*”, whereas “Eligible Collective Investment Schemes” includes all Securities and Futures Commission (“SFC”)-authorized funds managed by corporations licensed by or institutions registered with the SFC for Type 9 regulated activity. SFC authorization is not a recommendation or endorsement of any funds nor does it guarantee the commercial merits of them or their performance. It does not mean any of the funds is suitable for all investors nor is it an endorsement of its suitability for any particular investor or class of investors. It should be noted that there are differences in the eligibility criteria and investment requirements between the Original CIES and the New CIES.
